Handspun Afghan Wool

This carpet along with Levitation harnesses the expressive power of handspun wool.

This raw wool is rich in lanolin which creates a beautiful, intense abrash that is accentuated by the thick, coarse and low pile knotting technique. It all comes together to give a texture and feel you find in the ancient nomadic rugs of
Afghanistan, a wonderful contrast to the contemporary forms of Irene Infantes' designs.

Irene Infantes was born in Seville, south Spain, where she finished the European Baccalaureatte in Arts. In 2010 she moved to London in search of inspiration where she completed a BA in Textile Design at the Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design. During her studies Infantes was afforded the opportunity to design a special collection of prints for Anthropologie, to be sold in their latest shop opening in Spitalfields, London. She was also bestowed a 'Textprint' award which led her to exhibit her work at Chelsea College of Arts and the textile fair Premiere Vision in Paris, where she was shortlisted for the Clothworkers Interior Award.
Her work has been exhibited across the UK and throughout Europe, including the London Design Festival, London Design Business Centre, Lethaby Gallery. MoOD Brussels and Museum of Arts and Design in Hamburg.

Infantes defines herself as someone curious who is inspired by anything that is intriguing; ancestry, the meaning of colors and symbolism in all their obscure and apparent nature.
