Description
Attributed to Duncan Grant or Frederick Etchells 1913-15 The Courtauld Gallery, London (Samuel Courtauld Trust), giiven by Pamela Diamand, 1958.
Founded and headed by the artist and critic Roger Fry, Omega Workshops was the visual arts arm of the Bloomsbury Group, set up to bridge the gap between fine and decorative arts. Based in Fitzroy Square, London, Omega Workshops gave artists opportunity to generate income from the design of textiles, furniture and household items – all marked with the omega symbol, rather than the name of the artist. The workshops’ aesthetic is Post-Impressionist, with touches of cubism and fauvism visible in many of its textile patterns.
