About This Rug
We cannot imagine how modern this must have looked in 1913, coming after the overbearing, stuffy Victorian era. The weaver has successfully translated the free mark making so characteristic of Omega. Produced from an original design using original artwork held at the Courtauld Gallery’s Collection in London.

Founded and headed by the artist and critic Roger Fry, Omega Workshops was the visual arts arm of the Bloomsbury Group, set up to bridge the gap between fine and decorative arts. Based in Fitzroy Square, London, Omega Workshops gave artists opportunity to generate income from the design of textiles, furniture and household items – all marked with the omega symbol, rather than the name of the artist. The workshops’ aesthetic is Post-Impressionist, with touches of cubism and fauvism visible in many of its textile patterns.
