Woven Lives in Spitalfields at the Museum of the Home
During London Textile Month, Christopher Farr is proud to be part of an installation in the Museum of the Home, a collaboration with local Spitalfields resident and award-winning architect Chris Dyson. From 22nd – 30th September 2026, together we present the ‘Spitalfields’ rug which will appear for the first time in the re-imagined 1690s period room, presenting the domestic world of a recently arrived Hugenot family establishing life in London.
The Chris Dyson Architects practice is a short walk away from the Christopher Farr London Studio, where custom rugs are developed, with both studios in Spitalfields – the epicentre of the weaving and textile industry in the 18th century.
The ‘Spitalfields’ rug is a modern interpretation of an historic fragment of Hugenot silk tapestry that forms part of Chris Dyson’s personal collection. The design was developed from this fragment of original material with the design motifs re-scaled across the expanse of the rug and adapted for the modern eye.
THE WEAVERS OF SPITALFIELDS EVENT – WEDNESDAY 30TH SEPTEMBER
Join us to learn more about the rich textile heritage of Spitalfields at the In Conversation event ‘The Weavers of Spitalfields’ to be held in the atmospheric Chapel in the heart of the museum. The discussion will be chaired by Tamsin Blanchard, editor and crafts specialist, with Chris Dyson, architect, Matthew Bourne, co-founder of Christopher Farr, alongside MOTH’s Echo Godfrey, Collections Officer, and Ailsa Hendry, Collections Manager.
