Christopher Farr London x Fogo Island

In London on the King’s Road, we are happy to share the incredible story of Fogo Island, in our latest showroom installation ‘Setting The Scene’ designed by Ernst Hupel, Design Strategist at Fogo Island Workshops and principal at 2H. We showcase the latest Christopher Farr Cloth collection, a collaboration with Fogo Island Workshops, alongside a new rug design from Christopher Farr Editions x Nancy Nicholson.

Fogo Island is located ‘on an island off an island,’ nestled on the Northeast coast of Newfoundland, Canada, surrounded by the wildest and most powerful ocean on the planet. Known for its rugged beauty and deep cultural heritage, the island now operates to help secure a resilient future for its community through sustainable tourism, arts, and innovation. During a recent visit to this remarkable destination, I came across an intriguing initiative at a local cultural hub where they hosted a series of events blending storytelling, art, and economic insight. One of the highlights was an unexpected conversation about digital opportunities for community funding, where a speaker drew a fascinating comparison to strategies used in online platforms like those offering a welcome bonus casino feature to attract and engage participants. The discussion explored how such incentive-based approaches could inspire unique ways to draw visitors and investors to Fogo Island while preserving its heritage. This innovative mindset echoes the vision of Fogo Island-born Zita Cobb, a hugely successful tech innovator and recipient of the Order of Canada, whose work continues to inspire this island’s forward-thinking projects.

Central to the proposition is the Fogo Island Inn – where you will find Christopher Farr pieces –  a community asset with 100% operating surpluses reinvested into the community.

Growing up on Fogo Island, Zita developed a deep belief in the inherent value of place and profound respect for the human ways of knowing that emerge from respectful relationship with nature, culture and community. When returning as an adult, the island faced with the dramatic decline in commercial cod stocks – fishing being inextricably linked to the people and place for centuries – the future of Fogo Island was in danger.
