Christopher Farr London x Fogo Island
In London on the King’s Road, we are happy to share the incredible story of Fogo Island, in our latest showroom installation ‘Setting The Scene’ designed by Ernst Hupel, Design Strategist at Fogo Island Workshops and principal at 2H. We showcase the latest Christopher Farr Cloth collection, a collaboration with Fogo Island Workshops, alongside a new rug design from Christopher Farr Editions x Nancy Nicholson.
Fogo Island is located ‘on an island off an island’, being the Northeast coast of Newfoundland, Canada, and in the wildest most powerful ocean on the planet. It now operates to help secure a resilient future for the Fogo Island community. The project represents a particular set of circumstances, and the vision of Fogo Island born Zita Cobb, a hugely successful tech innovator, awarded the Order of Canada.
Central to the proposition is the Fogo Island Inn – where you will find Christopher Farr pieces – a community asset with 100% operating surpluses reinvested into the community.
Growing up on Fogo Island, Zita developed a deep belief in the inherent value of place and profound respect for the human ways of knowing that emerge from respectful relationship with nature, culture and community. When returning as an adult, the island faced with the dramatic decline in commercial cod stocks – fishing being inextricably linked to the people and place for centuries – the future of Fogo Island was in danger.
Shorefast, the parent charity behind Fogo Island Inn, Fogo Island Workshops and Fogo Island Fish, was founded by Zita, operates on the basis of a regenerative economic model helps people stay in the community they love by providing economic opportunities. Giving transparency on costs and margins, Shorefast operate an ‘Economic Nutrition’ mark, allows people to make spending decisions that positively impact people and planet.
Visit us to see the installation and learn more about Fogo Island – in situ until early summer.
