Based in Kyushu, the southern island of Japan, Makoto Kagoshima’s practice is to draw images on clay. Simple, heart-warming renderings as roses in exuberant bloom and birds in mid-flight or open song; depicting the world he encounters and the visual images that have since childhood, occupied his dreams. Each illustrated motif remains entirely one of a kind, the culmination of a series of distinct, refined techniques and Kagoshima’s vivid expressivity.
