Born into a Halifax textiles family, John Pawson went on to become one of the leading lights of British architecture, renowned for his clean-lined, near-monastic simplicity and ability to strip a space back to its essentials – a minimalist but often breathtaking interplay of light, lines and forms. His buildings across the world have earned numerous awards; his work has been the subject of Design Museum exhibition; and Pawson himself was made a CBE in 2019 for services to design and architecture.
