Celebrated Italian fashion designer Romeo Gigli began working with Christopher Farr in the early 1990s, when he was one of the most influential figures in the fashion world. After launching his brand in Italy in 1981, Gigli swiftly earned international renown for his nuanced understanding of colour, his love of natural lines and his understated style – very much against the grain in the power-suited 1980s. Gigli’s designs had a significant impact on the direction fashion took in the decades that followed – not least through his influence on young designers such as his sometime assistant, Alexander McQueen.
