Paris Deco Off – popping up with Tom Faulkner
This January for Paris Deco Off, Christopher Farr were delighted to make a temporary home in Saint-Germain-des-Prés joining fellow British brand Tom Faulkner, with whom we share the values of dedication to craftsmanship, meticulous attention to detail and letting the underlying beauty of materials shine. The Tom Faulkner Gallery space occupied a prime position on the Left Bank, the centre for the most discerning antique dealers and art galleries, just a short walk from the atmospheric Jardin du Luxembourg and a hop across the River Seine to Le Louvre.
A fixture in the annual design calendar, PDO runs concurrent with Maison et Objet, when the professional design audience descends on the French capital for their annual pilgrimage. Paris Design Week is a beacon for not just francophiles, but those seeking new launches of furnishings, textiles, and decorative objects, alongside curated presentations from prestigious brands and master artisans. The event transforms showrooms, art galleries and pop up exhibitions, attracting international decorators, interior designers, architects and collectors from far and wide.
A stalwart in the British design industry, with his flagship on Pimlico Road, Tom Faulkner curated the Saint-Germain space with characteristic flair. Within the Paris gallery salon space, a Christopher Farr custom handmade rug ‘Olubanyi Earth’, designed by Kate Blee – produced in partnership with Turquoise Mountain – took centre stage, anchoring a furniture grouping featuring Tom Faulkner upholstery and metalwork, made by hand at his Wiltshire workshop. Olubanyi is made in Ghazni wool which benefits from an inherent durability alongside an exceptionally soft hand that improves with age, with a natural stain resistance due to its high lanolin content. The warmth of the hand knotted rug – Ghazni wool, prized for its lustrous natural sheen – provided the perfect counterpoint to the handcrafted Memphis coffee table, where glass and steel meet in crisp, undulating curves. Lounging in style was provided for by the Moon sofa, Faulkner’s first venture into upholstery, its curvaceous and organic form inviting comfort.
Like Christopher Farr, Tom Faulkner offers extensive customisation in materials and specialist finishes, both brands are united in their commitment to supporting highly skilled artisan-makers and preserving traditional techniques within a contemporary design framework—producing timeless designs intended to endure.
