Peter Mikic’s Colour Odyssey
In our London King’s Road showroom, we welcome acclaimed interior designer Peter Mikic for our latest installation ‘Colour Odyssey’, encompassing Christopher Farr rugs and Christopher Farr Cloth, and art and objects from his personally sourced collection. Under Mikic’s direction, the showroom has been transformed by his vibrant and bold aesthetic into an energising and inviting space.
Shortly after the launch of Mikic’s latest project – The Faena New York, a design collaboration with Bjarke Ingels Group, and just the first project with notable hotelier Alan Faena – we were lucky to grab some of his time to put some of his vision into practice closer to home. With a theatricality to his interiors, there is an exuberance for life, and ability to create spaces that are playful and invite entertaining.
Known for his distinctive approach to design, Mikic focused his starting point on a celebration of pattern and colour, inspired by the pattern of Raoul Duffy (Christopher Farr Cloth wallcovering and fabrics), and the importance of colour in life, as expressed by Josef Albers’ Colour Theory, (the new CF Editions colourway to the Homage to the Square Series; Preparedness). From the layering of colour and patterns further depth is given by use of materials; a 1930s neoclassical marquetry screen, richly veined coloured marbles, malachite and bronze sculpture.
A self-confessed antique market addict, Mikic relishes in combining unexpected finds with high ticket collectibles, or upcoming artist and makers, all captured by his discerning eye and instinct for what works. Throughout, the curated art and objects further build on the personality of the space, giving an added elegance and glamour, all of which are for sale. With a graphic sensibility, stemming from his design hero David Hicks, Mikic has selected bold pattern and abstract rug designs, with rich textures from Christopher Farr wool and silk hand knotted rugs to combinations of Christopher Farr Cloth wallcoverings, textiles, passementerie and Cloth Shop cushions.
Further presenting the power of colour, downstairs, Mikic employs a strong base of black and white, with a punchy red leather top des as a foil to the monochrome palette.
